Terms of Service

1. Introduction and acceptance

Busco is operated by Looking Glass Labs LLC, a single-member limited liability company based in New York, United States (“Busco,” “we,” “us”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the busco.dev website, your Busco account, and the Pro subscription (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

The Busco desktop application, its bundled local backend, and the buscocommand-line tool (the “Software”) are licensed separately under the Busco End User License Agreement (“EULA”), which is presented to you when you install the app. If any conflict arises about the Software itself, the EULA controls; these Terms govern the account and Service.

2. Eligibility and early access

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or purchase a subscription. Busco is currently available by invitation only and is pre-1.0 early-access software: features may change or be removed, and we provide no service-level guarantee during early access.

3. Your account

A Busco account uses email and password or “Sign in with Google.” You agree to provide accurate information, to keep one account per person, and to keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. A Busco account is required to use Busco, on both the free and paid tiers; a Pro subscription additionally unlocks the paid features.

4. Subscriptions, billing, and payments

Busco offers a free tier and paid Pro plans. Current plans and prices are shown at busco.dev/pricing. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive or store your payment card details.

• Monthly and annual plans renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime through the Stripe customer portal; your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.
• Plan changes are prorated. If a payment fails or your account becomes past due, your account is downgraded to the Free tier.
• Prices exclude applicable taxes, which are calculated at checkout where required.

5. Lifetime plan

A “Lifetime” purchase grants a perpetual license to the major version of Busco you buy. You keep that version indefinitely, and patch and minor updates within that major version are included at no additional cost. A future major version may be offered as a separate purchase. “Lifetime” means access for as long as Looking Glass Labs LLC continues to offer the applicable version of the Software; it is not a guarantee of the company’s perpetual operation.

6. Refunds

You may request a full refund within 14 days of your purchase by emailing us. After 14 days, payments are non-refundable except where a refund is required by applicable law.

7. Referral program

If a referral program is available to you, you may refer up to three people. Referrals and any rewards have no cash value and are non-transferable. Creating fake, purchased, or self-referred signups is prohibited, and we may revoke referrals or rewards, and suspend accounts, for abuse.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use Busco for any unlawful purpose;
• index or search material you have no right to access or use;
• circumvent security, tier gating, or the device limit, or share session tickets or model keys;
• resell, sublicense, or host the Software or Service, or use it to build a competing product;
• abuse the account, billing, referral, or update endpoints.

Busco’s on-device AI features include third-party models (including models provided by Google under the Gemma Terms of Use). The applicable Gemma Prohibited Use Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference and flows down to you; you agree not to use Busco in any way those terms prohibit.

9. Intellectual property

Looking Glass Labs LLC owns the Software, the website, and the Busco brand. “Busco” is our trademark. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved. You retain all rights to your own files, indexes, and search results, which remain on your device.

10. Disclaimers

The Service, the Software, and all outputs — including search results, transcripts, and detected labels — are provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE,” without warranties of any kind. Search is probabilistic and may be inaccurate or incomplete; do not rely on it for high-stakes decisions. We do not guarantee that the account, billing, or update endpoints will be uninterrupted or error-free.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service or Software is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or data-loss damages. Busco reads your files only to index them locally, but you are responsible for maintaining your own backups.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Looking Glass Labs LLC harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of Busco, any unlawful content you index or search, and your violation of these Terms or of any incorporated third-party model license.

13. Termination

You may end these Terms by cancelling your subscription and uninstalling the Software. We may suspend or terminate your account for breach. When a Pro subscription is cancelled or lapses, Pro model features stop working after your cached session expires (an offline grace period of roughly three days), Free features continue to work, and your local indexes and files remain on your device.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New York for any dispute not otherwise resolved.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Busco evolves. When we make a material change, we will update the effective date above, and we may require you to review and accept the updated Terms before you continue to use the Service.
